Mission Statement

Storms and Precipitation Across the Continental Divide Experiment SPADE is a collaborative research study with an objective to understand the atmospheric conditions leading to storms and precipitation, including its type, across the continental divide. The specific objective is to investigate small-scale processes leading to orographic precipitation passing over the continental divide. This experiment runs from May to June 2019, funded by Global Water Futures: Solutions to Water Threats in an Era of Global Change.

Objectives

  1. How much condensate is passing over the divide and falling to the surface on the upwind and
    downwind slopes?
  2. What are the factors governing this condensate and the surface distribution of
    precipitation?
  3. How well are these features of the precipitation simulated?
